The Chillicothe Fire Department has acquired a grain rescue kit through a monetary donation from a Livingston County farm family. This grain rescue kit will provide the equipment needed to rescue a trapped farmer, grain industry worker, or anyone who could possibly find themselves in a grain entrapment, according to Fire Chief Darrell Wright. The chief explained that the kit goes around the person who is trapped to stabilize the grain. The grain is then removed from inside the rescue wall, and the person is pulled out to safety.

"This family saw a need for Livingston County and the surrounding area to have a grain rescue kit, so they made a $3,100 dollar donation in memory of their farmer, who passed away," Wright said. This kit will work will other kits that surrounding fire departments have as well, to expand the wall with more panels, or to have extra augers, or just extra helpers.

The family donating the funds asked to remain anonymous.
