At the regular meeting of the City Council
Monday, September 30, 2013, Chillicothe Mayor Chuck Haney proclaimed Sept. 28, 2013, as Ryan Panholzer
Day in Chillicothe. Panholzer, a 10-year-old boy, was alone in his home
Sept. 11 when a fire ignited. Panholzer, who had learned fire prevention
both at school and in his Boy Scout troop from the Chillicothe Fire Department, extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, called 9-1-1
and went to a neighbor's house. The home received light damage from the
extinguisher dust. Mark Simmer, of the Chillicothe State Bank, presented
Panholzer with a piggy bank filled with gold coins worth about $20. Haney
presented him with the proclamation certificate, City Administrator Ike
Holland presented a gift certificate, and members and mascot of the Chillicothe Fire Department attended the meeting to honor
Panholzer's actions.
